Neuropsychomotricity

Neuro and Psychomotor Therapy for Developmental Age.

The Neuro and Psychomotor Therapist for Developmental Age (NPTDA) is a healthcare professional in rehabilitation established by the Ministry of Health Decree No. 56/97. Holding the required university degree and professional registration, the NPTDA collaborates with the multidisciplinary child neuropsychiatry team and other pediatric disciplines. The NPTDA engages in preventive, therapeutic, habilitation, and rehabilitation interventions for child neuropsychiatric pathologies. The NPTDA exclusively focuses on the developmental age, intervening in the age group of 0-18 years. For each child or adolescent, the therapist develops a highly individualized therapeutic program, drawing on specific and cross-cutting skills in all developmental areas. These skills are acquired through a three-year degree in Neuro and Psychomotor Therapy for Developmental Age and continuous training, ensuring the application of integrated methodologies in each rehabilitation path, considering all necessary tools.

When to seek a neuropsychomotor consultation or evaluation:

- Delay in the acquisition of developmental milestones (e.g., motor skill acquisition)

- Motor coordination disorders (dyspraxia, motor clumsiness, etc.)

- Behavioral disorders (hyperactivity, oppositional-defiant disorder, self-regulation difficulties, etc.)

- Intellectual disabilities

- Executive function deficits (attention, working memory, etc.)

- Emotional and relational difficulties

- Autism spectrum disorders

- Visual-spatial and visuo-perceptual difficulties

- School difficulties primarily related to writing (e.g., dysgraphia)

Specifically, the following are performed:

- Evaluation of the child's functional development profile using standardized tools and structured and semi-structured observations to identify both weaknesses and strengths.

- Neuropsychomotor therapy: conducted in a playful context to develop and enhance motor, cognitive, emotional-relational, behavioral, and communicative skills in children.
